NCEA Level 3

The course includes solo and/or group performances, developing creativity though composing and arranging music and using industry standard music technology to notate, record, sequence and mix music. Students with an interest in music theory can choose to do the external exam which focuses on classical and contemporary harmony.

Music is a University Entrance subject and course endorsement is possible for students who enrol in the external standard.

Music Studies

STANDARD: 91416 (8 CREDITS)
Perform two programs of music as a featured soloist (optional)

STANDARD: 91418 (4 CREDITS)
Demonstrate ensemble skills by performing two substantial pieces of music as a member of a group

STANDARD: 91419 (8 CREDITS)
Communicate musical intent by composition three original pieces of music OR

STANDARD: 91849 (8 CREDITS)
Compose three songs that express imaginative thinking

STANDARD: 91424 (4 CREDITS)
Create two arrangements for an ensemble

STANDARD: 91421 (4 CREDITS)
Demonstrate understanding of harmonic and tonal conventions in a range of music scores (optional).
