Board of Trustees

The main task of the Board of Trustees is governance of the school. Its role is to oversee the implementation of the National Education and Administration Guidelines. The Board of Trustees has a Charter of aims and objectives. It is elected every three years, generally before the end of March. The next elections are in 2013.

The Board members are:

  • Chairperson: Brian Cadzow
  • Deputy Chairperson: Julie Harding
  • Principal/Secretary: Steve Bovaird
  • Martha Johansson
  • Kristine Mellor
  • Keith Stokes
  • Ruth Kaniuk (Staff Representative)
  • Jessie Black(Student Representative)

Executive

Each Year level of the school is supervised by a Dean who remains with a particular group of students as they progress through the school. The Dean's job is to oversee the welfare and progress of the students and to carry out the necessary administrative duties. As a rule the Dean is the person parents should make initial contact with on matters relating to their child.

International Education

The Director of International Education at the College is Gill Austin.

Guidance

The policy of the College is to offer guidance to any student who has an educational, social, or personal problem. Students at Lynfield are exceptionally fortunate in having the services of trained and experienced Counsellors.

Mrs Ro Lange (MEd (Hons), BA, Dip Tch) is overall in charge of the Guidance Centre, and she and her Staff offer individual and family counselling, advice on careers, special needs support, liason with Tertiary institutions, and LINK courses.

The Counsellors have direct access to Youth Aid, Children and Young Persons' Service, Special Education Service, the Health Department, and other community support groups.

Generally, three levels of pastoral care operate:

  1. Form teachers see students in their form class daily. Minor problems, queries relating to homework, and notes for absence should be referred to form teachers.

  2. Deans may have problems referred to them by class teachers or form teachers. Parents and students are encouraged to consult the Dean on matters of real concern. The Dean, in turn, may refer people on to one of the Counsellors.

  3. Guidance Counsellors deal with students in distress and/or those who want careers advice. Deans and Counsellors meet together weekly when serious matters are discussed with the Principal. Parents and students are able to deal directly with one of the Counsellors if this is felt necessary.
