Year 13

13ARD - DESIGN

During the year-long Year 13 Design programme students engage in cycles of research and practical work. Supported by their teacher, they select their own theme, stylistic approach and methods to investigate. Using influences from a range of established New Zealand and international designers, students produce multiple forms of design showing generation, development, analysis, clarification, extension and regeneration of their ideas.

Use of Photoshop and Illustrator is central to this programme.

During the year visiting designers share their work and experiences with students. Students also have the opportunity to listen to speakers from local tertiary education.

13ARP - PAINTING

During the year-long Year 13 Painting programme students engage in cycles of research and practical work. Supported by their teacher, they select their own theme, stylistic approach and painting methods to investigate. Using influences from a range of established New Zealand and international painters, students produce multiple series of drawings and paintings to show generation, development, analysis, clarification, extension and regeneration of ideas.  

During the year visiting artists share their work and experiences with students. Students also have the opportunity to listen to speakers from local tertiary education.

13PHO - PHOTOGRAPHY

During the year-long Year 13 Photography programme students engage in cycles of research and practical work. Supported by their teacher, they select their own theme, stylistic approach and photographic methods to investigate. Using influences from a range of established New Zealand and international photographers, students produce multiple series of photographs generating, developing, analysing, clarifying, extending and regenerating their ideas.

Manual use of a DSLR camera and Photoshop are central to this programme.

Students go on a field trip to various art galleries in Auckland. During the year visiting photographers share their images and experiences with students. Students also have the opportunity to listen to speakers from local tertiary education.

13AVC - VISUAL CULTURE STUDIES

During the 13 Visual Culture Studies programme students learn about the contexts, styles and meanings of a broad range of imagery made within different cultures at different periods in history.  Discussion, research, writing and presentation are central to this programme. The course focuses on two broad areas:
  • Modernism to Postmodernism - New Zealand and USA
and
  • Contemporary Diversity - New Zealand and International
