Bilingual Learning Assistant (English/Mandarin)

HOURS: Part-time | 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday
TERM: Fixed Term for the remainder of the 2026 school year

Are you passionate about helping students thrive in a new cultural and linguistic environment? We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Bilingual Learning Assistant (English/Mandarin) to join our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) department. In this role, you will work closely with our ESOL teachers to support English Language Learners (ELLs) from diverse cultural backgrounds.

TEFL/TESOL qualification, experience teaching ESOL students, additional language ability, and some subject knowledge in the Social Sciences, Science and/or Mathematics would be beneficial to your application. A willingness to facilitate inclusion and learning is imperative.

Key Responsibilities

  • In-Class Support: Assist ESOL teachers by helping students understand instructions, concepts, and coursework in both English and Chinese.

  • Small Group and One-on-One Help: Facilitate targeted learning sessions to build students’ confidence in reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Cultural Bridge: Help newly arrived students settle into the school culture, assisting with translations when communicating with parents and the wider school community.

  • Resource Preparation: Assist the department with translating learning materials and setting up classroom activities.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) is essential.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or youth in an educational setting.

  • Empathy and Patience: A welcoming and culturally responsive attitude towards students transitioning to a new educational system.

  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively alongside teachers and support staff.
