Groundskeeper and Maintenance Supervisor

PERMANENT, FULL TIME (52 WEEKS) 40 HOURS PER WEEK | STARTING ASAP

Lynfield College is seeking a results-focused, energetic, and friendly person with experience in groundskeeping and property maintenance to work as part of a top performing team committed to providing a safe, attractive and well-maintained environment that promotes student wellbeing and engagement at all times.

This role involves leading and managing the daily maintenance of grounds, gardens and school buildings, along with equipment, vehicles and furnishings. A proven work ethic, motivation, flexibility, the ability to work independently and the physical fitness to complete required tasks will be needed.

In line with the requirements outlined in the Caretaker of School Caretakers', Cleaners', Canteen and Ground Staff Collective Agreement for Grade Two Caretakers (3.1.3), the Groundskeeper and Maintenance Supervisor will have the ability to independently undertake school maintenance work (in addition to minor maintenance work) which they are legally able to undertake and which would normally be undertaken by a registered or qualified tradesperson, in accordance with decisions made by the Principal, Business Manager and School Board.

They will also demonstrate a highly effective ability to manage and complete small-scale projects, ensuring all tasks are executed efficiently, on time, within budget (if applicable) and to a high standard.

Essential for success in this position will be good presentation, strong communication and IT skills and the ability to maintain positive, professional relationships with external agencies and tradespersons. Adherence to personal safety procedures (as per school and Health and Safety policies), and the Staff Code of Conduct. A high level of trust and privacy around school activities and information is expected.

Senior Science Technician

This role works with the Assistant Science Technician in managing practical resources for the Science Department, and is an interesting position where no two days are ever the same. You will work as a team to manage chemical, biological and physical resources to support the science learning of students at Lynfield College. A Laboratory Manager position is also available and can be applied for in conjunction with the Senior Science Technician role. These roles are a vital part of the Science Faculty and report directly to the Science Faculty Leader.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Managing the preparation, maintenance and distribution of equipment and resources to ensure they are available when required for laboratory, classroom and assessment use

  • Working with teaching staff to design and implement the experimental and practical components of science lessons, practical assessments and examination support

  • Assisting the Science department to ensure related expenditure meets the College’s funding budget

  • Maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues to promote the exchange of ideas and solve problems

  • Ensuring systems and procedures in areas of responsibility meet all regulatory requirements

  • Participating constructively in professional development and performance management to maintain best practice and professional integrity.

Essential skills for this position include:

  • Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

  • Experience of working with the Safety and Science guidance from the Ministry of Education

  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work

  • Able to work unsupervised 

  • Committed to maintaining high standards

  • A team player that promotes the smooth running of the department

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Reliability, integrity 

  • Current Drivers Licence

  • Appropriate tertiary science qualification. 

This position is permanent, 30.0 hours per week or part time (hours to be negotiated), starting Tuesday 28 January. A police vet check will be required.
