Lynfield College has a proud tradition on the sports field.

Our teams and individuals excel in a wide variety of sporting codes. We offer 20 sports spread across both summer and winter seasons. We cater for students of all abilities and endeavour to place any student who wants to play a sport into a team.

The traditional sports of Rugby, Netball, Football, Hockey, Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton and Tennis have many teams for both boys and girls to join and a strong following. We also offer many non traditional sports such as Lawn Bowls, Waterpolo, Kilikiti, Golf, Rugby 7’s and Tag.

Students have the opportunity to represent the school in zone and regional competitions as well as winter tournament week. A highlight for the year is the traditional sports exchange with Mount Maunganui College.

Student achievement in sport is recognised through our popular Festival Awards evening in October and also at form assemblies and prize givings.

At Lynfield College we endeavour to offer our students as many opportunities as possible to achieve their sporting goal, whether it be making school ‘A’ teams, representative teams or simply just to have fun.

A number of our students are performing at or near the highest level in their chosen sport.  A new group called SPANTT (Sports People At or Near The Top) has been established.  Students are invited to join this group when they have performed exceptionally well in their sport, usually at or very near to NZ rep status or a national title.

Group members' strengths lie in a variety of different fields and this group helps nurture them in a supportive environment.  It recognises the many challenges they face to reach their goals and encourages dedication and commitment to their chosen field of expertise, their academic studies as well as just enjoying being a teenager!  Regular meetings provide our NZ Reps with the opportunity to share ideas with other likeminded students in the school and to chat relatively informally with a variety of guests who can offer advice on how to reach their goals, survive the journey, enjoy the thrills and prepare a 'Plan B' should it be needed.
