Junior Science

Year 9 and Year 10 Science

Students are introduced to scientific and experimental techniques as they learn about all aspects of science. Students will be involved in a range of activities from studying local wildlife to exploring the building blocks of the universe.

As well as preparing students for future study of Science, students will also gain a greater understanding of the world they live in. There is always something to inspire and challenge the budding scientist.

Year 9 – Science (9 SCI,) including two Advanced classes that follow an enriched programme, covers the following topics:
  • Introduction to Science
  • What’s Really in Our Food
  • Investigating Matter
  • Forces and Motion
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Light
  • Biodiversity
  • Astronomy

Year 10 - Science (10 SCI) covers the following topics:
  • Atomic Chemistry
  • Electricity
  • Reproduction and Inheritance
  • Energetic Earth
  • Acids and Bases
  • Ecology
  • An NCEA level 1 research Internal assessment
 
 * There are also two Year 10 classes (10 SCN) who are advanced and complete a Level 1 programme.
