                     A N D  P R I N T M A K I N G

The theme for the year is Turangawaewae - ‘a place to stand’. Students will engage in a range of practical drawing and painting processes and procedures. Topics covered include; colour theory, mixing and blending painting techniques to create realistic painted forms, use of acrylic paint mediums and how to work with an artist model to generate and develop pictorial ideas.

Other learning activities could include:

  • Fundamental drawing skills
  • Exploring wet media and developing skills (practical knowledge) in watercolour and acrylic paints
  • Artist image analysis
  • Developing ideas and creating a series of work in response to Turangawaewae - ‘a place to stand’ theme.

This learning underpins practical work however each student is encouraged to bring their own critical thinking skills and creativity to their project.

The theme for the year is Ko Wai Tatu - Who are we?’, All students will research established Māori, Aotearoa New Zealand and international artists and develop their digital illustration skills. Art mediums include drawing, painting, digital painting (Wacom tablets), Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create artworks.

Learning tasks could include:

  • Workbook developing technical Adobe Photoshop skills

  • Workshop developing technical Adobe Illustrator skills

  • Artist image analysis

  • Developing ideas and creating a series of work in response to Ko Wai Tatu - 'who are we?’ theme.

All students will research established Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori, and international artists. The theme for the year is Turangawaewae - ‘a place to stand’. Students will develop basic photographic skills related to studio practice. They will learn Photoshop tools to edit work. Students will explore Photographic genres of still life, portraiture and landscape.

Learning tasks could include:

  • Workbook (camera skills) with completed tasks to show how to change camera settings and how to edit in Photoshop
  • Photo shoots, working with props and sets, on how to create a good composition
  • Image analysis
  • Technical Photoshop skills. Present evidence of technical ability using Photoshop (selecting / editing / compositing)
  • Developing ideas within photography, thematic research based on identity and producing a small body of work presented onto a single folio panel.
