Lynfield College prepares students for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). Assessment leading towards the awarding of NCEA at Levels 1, 2 and 3 includes both formative and summative activities which are based on an assessment policy that ensures fair, valid and consistent procedures and outcomes.
Assessment strategies in the policy include ….
-
a range of assessment procedures and practices will be developed and these recognise the differences in gender, culture, background and experience that students bring to their learning.
-
assessment should be ongoing, accurate and as objective as possible.
-
the forms of assessment should be appropriate for the knowledge, skills or attitudes to be assessed.
-
the assessment processes must have credibility with all those involved in it.
-
all policies and procedures relating to assessment apply to off-site work components.
-
assessment of standards on the New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF) will be based on evidence that the criteria for the standard have been met and that the requirements of both the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) and the school’s policies have been satisfied.
Assessment in Years 9 and 10 is based on the rationale that there will be …
-
a development of students’ time management and other skills prior to entering qualifications where poor skills compromise achievement.
-
a measure of consistency of standards and expectations across curriculum areas.
